Photoshoot Tips for Models
If you're a model, an impressive portfolio is essential to stand out in the industry. But how do you prepare for a photo session that really shows your potential? The first step is to plan ahead. Work with a stylist (in Mexico City, Manuel Delgado is excellent!) or choose your outfits carefully, considering both your personal style and the kind of session you're doing.
Practicing your poses in front of a mirror may sound obvious, but it's incredibly useful. It helps you feel more comfortable and find your best angles. Remember that attitude is key: staying relaxed and confident during the session will make the photos look natural and authentic.
Working with a professional photographer also makes a big difference. A good photographer knows how to use light and composition to create striking images, and also how to make you feel comfortable and bring out your best. Communication is essential: don't hesitate to share your ideas and listen to the photographer's suggestions.
Today, during a shoot with actor Diego Deane, he told me: "there are a lot of photographers, but few artists" (thanks, my friend!), and I think he's right. Choosing your photographer and talking with them before the shoot is something I always do. It increases the chances of making the most of the creative potential and avoids misunderstandings about how the process works. Surprises like "I thought you'd send me all the unedited photos so I could give them to my cousin who's in his first semester of design" should NEVER happen to an artist or photographer who cares about their personal brand.
A successful photo session will give you an impressive portfolio, and it will also be a fun, enriching experience. Imagine having creative, professional photos that show not only your looks but also your personality. It's an investment in your career and in your confidence.
